Cosmarium pokornyanum. Notice semicells made up of a rectangular basal part and an attenuating apical part. Cell margins between the angles indented to a lesser or greater degree.
Cell dimensions (L x B): 32 x 18 µm
C. pokornyanum is a little conspicuous, yet characteristically shaped smooth-walled Cosmarium species. It somewhat resembles C. sphyrelatum (desmid of October 2019).but cells are larger and relatively longer. In addition to that, semicells are more pyramidal in outline and cell wall is seemingly smooth instead of markedly scrobiculate. In the Netherlands, C. pokornyanum is of incidental occurrence on wet, sandy substrates.
